This article provides instructions on setting up Microsoft® ExchangeTM 2003 Mail server to relay email through MailChannels Cloud. To route all outgoing mails via the outgoing smarthost, please complete the following steps in order.
- Using the Exchange System Manager, navigate to the Servers container.
- Using the Protocols container drop down, find the SMTP protocol and select Default SMTP Virtual Server.
- Right click on the default SMTP virtual server and choose Properties.
- Click the Outbound Security button.
- Select Basic authentication and enter your MailChannels SMTP username and password. Important: SMTP Authentication username and console username are NOT the same. The password is generated after you login to the MailChannels console.
- Click Ok.
- Click on Outbound connections on the delivery tab.
- This will show you what outgoing SMTP port number you are configured to send. Set this to port 25.
- Click Ok.
In order to get mail to relay through our servers you will need to setup the Smart Host setting on this screen. This is what tells Exchange to deliver all email destined for the internet though our servers.
- Enter the SMTP server name we gave – smtp.mailchannels.net.
- Restart your SMTP service for all changes to take effect.
- Send a test email.
- Check the outbound queue on Exchange to make sure that the test email did not get stuck in your outbound queue because of authentication errors.
Note: Any email that is currently in the queue might not take these new settings.
- On some systems (depending on the configuration) you may need to go to: Routing Groups.
- Select Connectors and Internet Mail Service.
- Right-click and select Properties.
- In the menu provided, select Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart host.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Select Outbound Security.
- Enter your SMTP smart host user name and password in the Basic Authentication section.
- Restart the Exchange server.
