Many MailChannels Outbound Filtering subscription plans include Alert Monitors that notify you of spamming activity within your network. In this article, you will learn how to create these monitors to receive alerts by email or webhook. If your console does not provide Monitors access, you can upgrade to a subscription plan that includes them anytime needed.
Set up Monitors
1. To receive alerts when a user, script, or other sender within your network starts spamming, visit the Monitors page. You will initially see the following empty list of monitors:
2. Click the "Add Monitor" button:
You can choose from the following types of events about which you wish to be notified:
- Sender ID is sending SPAM - a sender is sending messages that we have determined to be spam
- Sender ID is sending to invalid recipients - a sender is sending email messages to recipient addresses that don't exist
- Sender ID is being rejected by destination - a sender's email messages are being rejected by email receivers
- Envelope Sender Address is on MailChannels Blocklist - the sender email address as specified in the message envelope is listed on our block list
- Envelope Sender Domain is on MailChannels Blocklist - the domain of the sender email address as specified in the message envelope is listed on our block list
- Sender ID is being rate limited - we are slowing down the rate at which a sender can submit messages in order to limit abuse
- Sender ID is on MailChannels blocklist - we have detected large amounts of abuse from a sender, and the sender is now permanently blocked in our system
- IP Address has suddenly increased volume - one of the IP addresses connecting to the service using your MailChannels account has suddenly increased its email volume a great deal
- IP Address is generating a large number of NDR - one of the IP addresses connecting to the service using your MailChannels account is generating a large number of non-delivery receipts (NDRs)
- IP Address is sending messages without Sender ID in headers - one of the IP addresses connecting to the service using your MailChannels account is sending messages that have no reliable user identity within the message headers (such as the X-AuthUser header)
- Sender ID blocked due to FBL reports - Receiver(s) are complaining about spam coming from this sender and require a rejection block be put in place temporarily to protect their users.
Once you have selected the type of event you wish to monitor, you need to specify whether you wish to receive alerts to an email address, or a webhook. What's a webhook? Please read the Wikipedia article on webhooks for more information. Webhooks are an advanced topic.
3. Specify the email address or webhook destination to which any alerts should be sent, and then specify how often you wish to receive this type of alert to that destination. The alert frequency is once per hour by default.
4. Finally, click Enabled to enable the alert, and then Save to save the alert and make it active.
